Keep Your Dough Protected During Every Stage of the Fermentation Process
Sourdough dough needs to be covered during bulk fermentation, bench rest, and the cold proof — and what you cover it with matters more than most bakers realize. Plastic wrap sticks, tears, and ends up in the landfill after every bake. A damp towel dries out and can stick to the dough surface, tearing it when you go to shape.
Our Sourdough Bowl Cover is reusable, food-safe, moisture-retaining, and sized to fit the mixing bowls most home sourdough bakers already use.

When to Use It During Your Bake
- During autolyse — cover the flour-water mixture during its 30–60 minute rest before adding starter and salt
- During bulk fermentation — cover the dough for the full 4–12 hour bulk ferment, including between stretch-and-fold sets
- During bench rest — cover the pre-shaped dough loosely for its 20–30 minute rest before final shaping
- During cold proof (optional) — can be used over the banneton basket in the fridge as an alternative to a shower cap or plastic bag
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I wash it?
Hand wash with soap and water.
Will it fit my banneton basket?
The 22cm diameter fits most standard round mixing bowls (typically 3–5 quart). For covering a banneton basket in the fridge, the cover works best on the open top of the basket if the diameter matches. A standard 9-inch banneton is approximately 23cm — the cover will stretch slightly to accommodate.
Does the cotton outer layer absorb moisture into the dough?
No. The food-safe polyethylene lining faces the dough and creates a non-absorbent barrier. The cotton outer layer is for durability and handling.
Can I use it to cover my starter jar?
The 22cm cover is designed for mixing bowls. For covering a starter jar, a breathable cloth secured with a rubber band or the jar's loose lid works better — your starter needs airflow, not a sealed cover.
Is it airtight?
It creates a moisture-retaining seal but is not fully airtight, which is ideal for sourdough dough. A small amount of gas exchange is fine during fermentation — you just don't want the dough surface to dry out and form a skin.

Doesn't stick to my loaf when my bread rises. Good quality.
The bowl covers are beautiful! The fabric is lovely and the sizes are perfect.
They work well to cover your bowl when your dough is resting.
Love this bowl covers! The larger one is big enough to fit my new Mason Cash 4.5 qt mixing bowl so it’s perfect, no more plastic wrap plus they are cute designs as well and love supporting a small business!
I love this bowl cover better than my Nectar and Nest beeswax cover. Less mess and the beeswax leaves residue on my bowls, not a fan. I can easily dust the rice flour off with the Loave cover. With my beeswax cover, the rice flour sticks to it and doesn't come off easily. There's always reside left behind.
